2025 Most Reclassified Class Codes – NCCI’s New List

The most reclassified class codes can be found in the chart below.  NCCI’s new list for 2025 shows that 8293 has risen to the top for reclassification.  You can find the complete article here.

By reviewing the report, you can:

  • Go deeper into 5 of the top 10 reclassified codes
  • Examine the common drivers behind each reassignment
  • Identify what to look for at policy issuance to help prevent recurring misclassification.

Unfortunately, I may have missed writing on this very helpful report by NCCI.  Something that NCCI wrote in its article stood out: getting the classification codes correct at the start of the policy process.

Workers Comp Policies Do Matter

Why do WC policies matter? One passage from the NCCI press release and article –

WHY IT MATTERS: Assigning the appropriate classification code at policy issuance is an important step in maintaining the integrity of the classification system.

The best advice on how to build trust with an insured is to use the correct Classification Codes at policy inception (the start) and not leave it to multiple Endorsements or the premium audit to correct any class code errors. The reclassified class codes in the chart below are a great starting point.

See the table below for having the correction process occur during the premium audit.

Premium Audit Changes Restricted

I will not cover the rules here on thinking that a premium audit will “clean up” any classification code errors.   I have heard this comment from Agents over the last 30+ years.  Catching any errors early in the policy issuance process will cause the trust level by employers to stay at a high level.

The rules vary on when the codes can be corrected.   The prior articles on the most reclassified class codes can be found here.
