Workers Comp Christmas – Helping The Grinch Steal It

A Workers Comp Christmas Holiday was stolen by the Grinch last year. How do I know this info?  I forgot to do the 2025 Workers Comp Resolutions.  Let’s cover how one can help him steal it. I had more references to the Grinch in the list below. I removed them as the article covers a serious subject, and the Grinch references sounded too creepy on each bullet point, even in an article about Workers Comp Christmas.

On a side note, if you have not seen the Jim Carey version, it is worth the time to watch it.  The original cartoon version remains a Holiday classic.

  • Not Reading Your Workers Comp Policy and Endorsements.  The Grinch loves it when this happens.  You have made his job very easy.
  • Considering Workers Comp as a tax on doing business. As with not reading your policy, the Grinch’s job becomes a simple task.
  • Not using your agent/broker’s, TPA’s, or insurance carrier’s safety programs and tools – most of them are free. Your company pays to use them through your premium, so use them.
  •  Not setting up your medical treatment network – a workers comp Christmas gift to your injured employees while saving you premium.
  • Attempting to pay injured worker claims through health insurance and salary continuation – the Grinchiest of all ways to handle claims.  Shockingly, this still goes on today.  How do we know?  We receive frantic calls when the claim starts going out of control, and they usually do about 90 days into the claim.
  • Not having a full-blown safety program.  Safety returns approx. 6 to 1 on dollars spent.  Keep the Grinch at bay with this one. A Workers Comp Christmas will get very expensive without a safety program.
  • Not knowing your Experience Mod Factor, or for self-insureds, your LDF.
