A Nice After-Hours Conversation with an Incredibly Wise Individual

A great quiet conversation with Dr. John Ruser – CEO of WCRI.  I found him sitting in the dining area by himself.   As you may already know, The 2023 WCRI Conference is in Phoenix.  The last time I attended the conference in Phoenix, I was able to squeeze in a spring training game at the training facility for the Milwaukee Brewers. Wisconsin fans were as nice as a group has been to me in years.  They even gave me a free ticket.

Info on the 2023 WCRI conference can be found here.

The two areas that sparked an interest in me were the Chiropractic study that showed in some circumstances, Chiropractic care may actually be a cost-savings technique.  The other was an update on Dr. Savych’s groundbreaking study on  what happens to an injured worker post-claim when everyone turns their attention to open files

Dr. Ruser is an economicist.  We talked about economic situations for a few minutes.  Who better to discuss the current inflationary cycles than with an economist?

Session Surfing with Denise Algire

Denise and I have known each other for a number of years. I always try to sit in on her presentations.  I missed her original session.  I was searching for a former client that had invited me to their booth.

Sadly, the company no-showed the conference. (Ouch!)

Denise asked if I would accompany her session-surfing (Six Conferences in One Hour).  Denise is the Director- Risk Initiatives and National Medical Director at Albertsons.

We covered the following sessions: – 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM Thursday, October 2, 2022.

  1. Understanding Your Actuarial Reports – a favorite of number geeks like me.
  2. Yes, Claims Management Is Part of Your Brand – companies are starting to wake up to this fact on reputation,
  3. Winning with Data
  4. Back Safety Intervention
  5. Cannabis and Behavioral Care
  6. Incentivizing Best Practices

Sedgwick After Party +OneCall After Party

After a few quiet conversations, session surfing, and the NWCDC happy hour, I decided to check out the Sedwick and OneCall after-parties.  Thanks to Sedgwick for the flashing glasses in the pic.

When I arrived at the OneCall after-party, they requested that I wear the glasses.  I complied.
